GUYS AND DOLLS October 9 – 26, 2008
Book by Abe Burrows and Jo Swerling, Lyrics and Music by Frank Loesser
Meet Sarah Brown, the upright but uptight "mission doll", out to reform the evildoers of Time Square; Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love; Adelaide, the chronically ill nightclub performer whose condition is brought on by the fact she's been engaged to the same man for 14 years; and Nathan Detroit, her devoted fiancé, desperate as always to find a spot for his infamous floating crap game. One of the best musicals of all time, the show features classic songs like “Luck Be A Lady”, “If I Were a Bell”, “Sit Down Your Rockin’ The Boat” while taking you from Damon Runyon’s mobbed-up New York to the cafes of Havana. Funny and romantic, “Guys And Dolls” is ideal for audiences of any age.
OUR TOWN November 6 – 23, 2008
By Thornton Wilder
Grover's Corners, New Hampshire. Small, rural, out-of-the-way fictional town. 1901 to 1913. Our Town concerns itself with the continuing cycle of life, humankind's nearest understanding of eternity. Morality, community, the family, appreciation of everyday pleasures – all are spun into a crystalline web that somehow embraces the eternal. The action is built toward the dramatic revelation that life, however painful, dreary, or inconsequential in its daily events, is a precious gift as well as part of the mysterious plan that rests in the "Mind of God." Awarded the Pulitzer Prize, Our Town is one of the best plays of the twentieth century.
IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE December 4 – 21, 2008
By Philip and Susan Kern and Jerry Lowe
An American Christmas tradition brought to the stage with all the familiar characters and a great musical score! If you don’t know it, the story takes place in Bedford Falls shortly after World War II.. George Bailey is attempting suicide on Christmas Eve when his guardian angle, Clarence Oddbody devises a plan to help him in his hour of need. Clarence takes George on a magical journey where we see all the people whose lives have been touched by George and the difference he has made to the community in which he lives. Will George get his life back? Will Clarence get his angel wings? The answers are always worth watching! This one is a heartwarming classic and a holiday staple around the world!
THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH January 22 – February 8, 2009
By George Axelrod
Richard Sherman roams restlessly around his empty apartment, bemoaning the fact that his wife of seven years, and their son, have just walked out on him. Then, without warning, a gigantic flower pot tumbles down from an overhead balcony, nearly putting him permanently out of his misery. The jarring event has a strange effect on Richard. Suddenly reborn, he invites the delectable doll who lives on the floor above down for an evening of temptation. The night doesn't quite go the way he thought it would, as his conscience literally follows him about the apartment in a soul-struggle of heroic and hilarious proportions. A classic American comedy that made Marilyn Monroe a super-star and Joe DiMaggio jealous!
A FUNNY THING HAPPENED
ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM February 19 – March 8, 2009
Book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, Lyrics and Music by Stephen Sondheim
Based on the plays of Plautus
"Tragedy tomorrow, comedy tonight!" Broadway's greatest farce is light, fast-paced, witty, irreverent and one of the funniest musicals ever written – the perfect escape from life's troubles. Comedy goes back to its roots, combining situations from time-tested, 2000 year old comedies of Roman playwright Plautus with the infectious energy of classic vaudeville. A laugh-fest in which a crafty slave struggles to win the hand of a beautiful but slow-witted courtesan for his young master in exchange for freedom.
PETER PAN March 26 – April 11, 2009
By J.M. Barrie, Music by Mark Charlap and Lyrics by Carolyn Leigh
All children except one…grow up! Based on J.M. Barrie's tale of the same name, this is the all time favorite musical of Peter – the boy who spent his life in Neverland battling pirates! When he brings the Darling children to Neverland, he finally defeats his foe, Captain Hook, and befriends the Indian princess. A musical the entire family can crow about, with all the famous songs – “I’m Flying”, “I Gotta Crow”, “Never Neverland”, “I Won’t Grow Up” and “Captain Hook”! Don’t miss a beat of this fun filled musical adventure; complete with lost boys, high-stepping pirates, the delightfully dangerous Captain Hook, the Darling children and the perennial charm of the boy who won’t grow up—Peter Pan! A classic tale of youth, joy and freedom!
