The Show: Grover's Corners, New Hampshire. Small, rural, out-of-the-way fictional town. 1901 to 1913. Our Town concerns itself with the continuing cycle of life, humankind's nearest understanding of eternity. Christian morality, community, the family, appreciation of everyday pleasures are the central tenets of this play. Yet, the presentation of these values on stage are anything but conventional. Time and place are manipulated. The here-and-now details of a small New England village become the timeless concerns of all humankind. The action builds toward the dramatic revelation that human life, however painful, or seemingly inconsequential, is both a precious gift in its own right and a sharing in the mysterious plan that swirls in the "Mind of God."
