Cincinnati Young People’s Theatre Invites you to be a part of 30 years of great performances.

Who We Are:

Cincinnati Young People’s Theatre (CYPT) is a project for, of and by teenagers (13 - 19 years old). Started by Tim Perrino in 1982, CYPT has since produced 30 years of exciting summer shows, including: West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, Anything Goes, 42nd Street, Children of Eden, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and many more! The summer provides great opportunities to performers and theatre technicians alike. To date, over 1,500 teens have been a part of CYPT.

CYPT is the recipient of the 2001 Post-Corbett Award for Outstanding Arts Organization, plus, the 1987 National Recreation & Parks Arts and Humanities Award and the 1986 Ohio Parks and Recreation Award for Best Student Program.

CYPT conducts organizational meetings every December. At these meetings, proposals for the summer show are made and voted on by the participants. The rest of the summer activities begin to be planned, along with auditions and fundraisers. Meeting notices go out by email. All potential participants are welcome.

Auditions are in May. First rehearsals are in early June. Performances are the last two weeks of July .

Meetings, rehearsals and performances are at the Covedale Center for the Performing Arts, 4990 Glenway Ave. There is plenty of parking. For directions call (513) 241-6550.

What to Expect at an Audition:

Arrive on time. Be prepared to sing a song which best displays your voice. Bring sheet music for our accompanist. Do not expect to sing a capella or with pre-recorded music. You will also be asked to read from a script and may be tested for dance ability. Please dress appropriately.

When Are Rehearsals and Performances?

Rehearsals will usually be Mon., Tue., Thu, 6:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. at the Covedale starting in June. Performances take place the end of July.

CYPT has three goals each summer:

  1. To produce the best theatrical event in the region – on any level.
  2. To provide a summer where the participants (onstage and off) achieve great things and return to school with more skills, experiences and a real sense of accomplishment.
  3. To provide a theatrical forum where participants with similar interests will make dozens of friends and enjoy the best summer of their lives. If you are interested in the same things, then you should be a part of CYPT.

Come to our auditions! Come to a meeting! Get on our email list! If you wish to work on a crew or backstage, you should come to sign up. We’re friendly and want you to be a part of the program. We look forward to seeing you.
